Cyber City Oedo 808 (OVA)

Description:    In the year 2808, three criminals are offered a choice: Spend the rest of their lives aboard a maximum-security orbital prison, or return to Earth as agents of the Cyber Police. Parole violations will be rare as each criminal is fitted with a booby-trapped, high-explosive collar which operates on a 24-hour timer. If ever a check-in is missed, the consequences would be... gruesome. For every criminal caught, the agents receive a "bounty" that reduces their total sentence, so some day they may walk free again. >From the creator of Ninja Scroll

What do you usually do with hardened criminals with a list of crimes longer than your arm? Why give them a gun, a bomb to wear around their necks and make them fight crime for you. Um, yeah, give them a gun.

Actually, this anime has a very interesting motif that drives it, and one that many crime fighters would definitely question. Three criminals are given a second chance to shorten the prison sentences by solving crimes and bringing in other criminals. As each case is solved an another crook goes to jail, the three ex-inmates gets their sentences reduced. But there is a catch, fail to solve the crime or apprehend the criminal in 24 hours, you lose your life, along with your head.

This anime series is very interesting and the three volumes offered gives us a look into each of the three main characters, each volume focusing on one of them. The anime is filled with action and this helps carry stories, but it loses some momentum when it tries to focus too hard on each characters' faults. I did like the engaging animation and eye candy it did offer. This anime is just pure entertainment. Volume 1 and 2 are the most exciting out of the entire 3 episode series, and Volume 3 lends more to the super natural aspect, and that's where it loses all momentum.

I suggest this title if you just like action, but for story wise, it could have been better. The subtitling is well done, and goes to show that US Manga Corps shall remain one of the forefront anime distributors in America. The Dub however, is one to avoid.
